This project aims to upskill a cohort of data scientists and AI researchers, known as Public Engagement Ambassadors (PEAs), in public engagement methods, with an emphasis on coproduction practices. The PEAs will be placed into learning “Pods”

Following a series of roadshows, the project trained 23 researchers (our PEAS!) from the universities of MMU, Manchester and Salford and local SMEs via the GM AI Foundry in co-production over several training sessions. This exciting programme included public engagement skills, co-production, and evaluation, with a focus on co-production methods.

All of our PEAs who completed the training programme received a certificate.

After the training our PEAS will have the opportunity to take part in an ideation event on the theme of Data and Artificial Intelligence Ethics, working with local communities in Greater Manchester. This will involve applying co-design skills to create project ideas in partnership with the community.

Following the project pitching to these communities, three separate, coproduced, community-based programmes of inspirational public engagement events/activities about data science and AI research will be taken forward.
